After serving in the Second World War, Tom Howes and Bill Boughton returned home and started work for a local small builder. They later asked for a small wage rise, but were refused, as a result the two friends came together and in September of 1947 founded Howes and Boughton Building Company. The business that has prospered throughout its 68 years and has become a much respected and successful contractor in Letchworth Garden City.
Howes and Boughton pride ourselves on our workmanship. As two time winner of the Garden City Heritage Award in 1992 and 1995 and finalists in 2007 and 2009 our quality is clear. We approach every project with the highest level of care and attention and our professional team of project managers help each client through every stage of their project, from the design phase right through to the finishing touches, liaising and advising throughout.
All our work follows strict health and safety guidelines and each member of our team is health and safety trained to CSCS standard. We also have full liability insurance, so you can be assured that you are in very safe and capable hands with Howes and Boughton.
Our work is a unique combination of modern construction and traditional techniques found in great buildings of previous generations. All too often, modern day housing developments concentrate on volume and cost cutting. Paul Boughton originally started in the building trade as an apprentice brick layer for his Fathers Company Howes and Boughton. After spending 6 years on site Paul moved on to a role in site management, looking after many internal refurb projects, roofing projects and extensions. Paul eventually gravitated towards working in an office environment putting his combined skills to work and providing general surveying, pricing and managing of projects. Paul continues this role within the DB Sharp group and is an expert in customer relations.
Paul dedicates a lot of his spare time to Scouting, and is an Assistant Scout Leader at Ridgeway Scouts, Stotfold Branch. Outside of this he is a keen horse rider and has been riding since he was a teenager.
He enjoys spending time with his family away on holiday in their Caravan and can be found most Sundays, watching his son playing football for Stotfold youth
